Kyle called Chris today to announce that Becky had her baby  around 11:30 am.  She went into the hospital around midnight and Andrew Michael arrived about 12 hours later.  He was 20 and 3/4 inches in length and weighed 7 pounds 8 ounces–2 ounces less than Alicia–and he was at least 2 1/2 weeks early.  His due date was the 9th of September.  Fortunately for Becky that she didn’t go full term; Andrew would have been a big baby.  Both Becky and baby were doing well though Andrew has had a challenge learning to nurse.  He was given a bottle in the hospital and liked that too much.  Becky wanted to prove to herself that she could have her baby without an epidural and only had painkillers throughout the labor.  More power to her!!  I guess he has his nights and days mixed up and sleeps all day long and stays up at night.  I am so grateful that both of our girls are good sleepers.

I noticed that I had a pretty painful lump on my breast and realized that I had a clogged milk ducts last Monday.  I read in some of my books that I needed to keep nursing Alicia on it and massaging the lump away.  It was extremely painful and hurt for me to just hold my arm normally against my side.  I continued to massage the lump, which became quite large, for the next few days, though it didn’t seem as though it was helping just hurting.  Finally the pain has started to subside today.  I am grateful that it didn’t become infected and turn in to mastitis–an infection of the milk ducts-which requires antibiotics.
