Misha has been sleeping in a twin bed for the past week. She learned how to climb out of her crib two weeks ago and there was no keeping her in it when she was determined to be out of it. Her twin bed was set up in Amy’s room, so I tried to get her to sleep in it and would lay down beside her. This sometimes took over an hour for her to finally go to sleep. We tried putting up the safety gate in front of the door so that even if she climbed out of bed, she wouldn’t be able to get out of the room. Wrong! She just climbed over the gate. It was precarious enough that I figured sooner or later she would fall on her head.
After little success sleeping in Amy’s room, I put a foam mattress on the floor in Misha’s room. She still cried when I left the room and tried to get out. The next step was to bungee the door closed so that she couldn’t open the door. Finally after a couple of minutes crying, she went to sleep on the mattress. On the Monday following such a fun weekend, Chris stopped at Wal-mart and picked up some door knob covers that have solved the entire problem. For the first two nights when I put her in bed, she tried to get out of the room and couldn’t. She cried for maybe two minutes and then it stopped. When I checked on her before I went to bed, she laid down on the mattress and had gone to sleep. Last Wednesday, I dismantled the crib and took it downstairs. I moved Misha’s twin bed out of Amy’s room and into her own room. Since then, we have had no problems. In fact, last night we were out late, and I told both girls that when we got home they were to go right to bed. I carried Amy in, and Misha climbed up the stairs and onto her bed. I covered her up and she went right to sleep. For the first couple of nights after she figured out how to climb out of her bed, it was misery for all of us, but I have come to realize that you simply have to keep trying to make the change in their lives and they adapt pretty easily. Next comes potty training for Misha.
We are leaving on Saturday for a two-week vacation. We are driving to Utah on Saturday, staying until Thursday morning when we fly out to Oregon and Washington. We stay in Washington until the following Thursday when we fly back to Utah. We will probably drive home from Utah on Saturday the 17th. It will be a long trip with a lot of family. Susan and Carson are blessing their baby on Sunday, May 3rd and all of my family will be there except Shane. He stopped by here last Saturday night on his way to Detroit to work for the summer.
Amy is so looking forward to spending time with her cousins and seeing her grandparents and even Great Grandmas. She will get to see three out of four in this trip. Grandma Andrews is flying up to Washington for a couple of days to see us and Kevin, Candace, and Jonathan. Grandpa Kline will also fly in for a day. We are going to go to the coast as a family for part of the time we are in Oregon–we wanted to be able to have some time away from family and the frenzy that always creates. Plus, everyone will be in Washington at Grandma Balls–even her sister and one of Chris’ cousins. I think they will get a hotel, and Grandpa Kline will get a hotel as well. Kevin and Candace will stay at Candace’s parents, and Lori and Jenni will sleep next door at the neighbors. It will be quite a full house.
Becky and Kyle with their two kids are moving to Oregon and will be staying with Larry and Linda until they have a place to move into, a job, or both. Not sure. I just hope that our girls will be able to sleep well.
Our house has been “on the market” since last Tuesday. We haven’t had any interested buyers so far. We have a lot of time–till October–to sell, and I really don’t want to have to move twice because this one sells early, but it would be nice to have that pressure off of us. Kind of a double-edged sword.
