It has been almost a month since our bad Saturday appendix experience. Amy has been doing great since she was released. We went back to the hospital to see the surgeon on Tuesday the 3rd. Dr. Allshouse was on vacation so we saw Dr. Bealer instead. Sadly, Amy had to have another CAT scan before her doctor appointment to check on the status of her appendix and the mass. We were told to arrive one hour early, but once we arrived we found out that we should have been told to be two hours early because Amy needed to drink more CAT scan juice over a two-hour period. Another CAT scan meant another IV. When Amy found out about the IV, she was definitely not happy. We mentioned to the nurse that Amy’s veins collapsed regularly and that if the nurse didn’t feel as though she could get the IV on the first try, would she please get someone who was skilled at giving IVs. Success on the first try. Though that didn’t mean Amy was liking it. She was pretty brave throughout though. Chris stood by her head, and I stood by her lower body as she lay in the CT machine. It is so hard to watch your children go through painful things in life.
Once we were able to see Dr. Bealer, he basically said, “I am just filling in for Dr. Allshouse today, you’ll need to come back next week again.” The scan also showed that the mass was still there so we had to continue with the twice-a-day antibiotic regimen for an additional week. Kind of a frustrating appointment—we probably could have waited a week for Dr. Allshouse to return—but we scheduled a second follow-up appointment for April 3. It would be during Spring Break for the girls, so Amy wouldn’t have to miss any more school for it.
